MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Saturn

Hello and Welcome to Saturn Class!

Saturn is a mixed class of Year 4 & 5 children.  I hope you find the information about the class useful.

Our Topic: Our topic this term is the Mayans and after half term we will be learning about the Ancient Greeks.  During our Mayans work we will be writing discussion texts, myths and recounts.  We will also be exploring traditional Mayan music and learning how the Mayans lived in history.  Throughout our Ancient Greeks topic we will be writing stories and persuasive text in English and making Greek pottery in DT.  For further information regarding our topic this term, please click here to view our learning and topic web.

PE: For our class, this is currently on a Friday.  We are doing rugby so children will require jogging bottoms and a t-shirt, a jumper and trainers - clothing should be suitable for ourdoor PE.  After half term, PE will be on a Wednesday when we will be going into the woodland where we will be covering a wider variety of the PE curriculum objectives.  In order for your child to get properly involved in the session, please provide wellies, raincots and gloves for when it gets colder - we will go out and explore the woodland what ever the weather!

How you can Help: Read with your child or encourage your child to read independently for 15 minutes a day.  Please could you or your child write a comment in their reading record and ensure their reading book and reading record come back into school every day.  Please ask questions about the books; what has happened? what are the characters feeling? what they think will happen next? Please ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and promote the benefits of exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle.  Wherever possible, encourage your child to bring a drinks bottle for their table to ensure they remain hydrated throughout the day.

Homework: homework is handed out on a Friday afternoon and is due in 10days later on the Monday.  Please encourage children to take responsibility for their own homework as this teaches them to be organised and indepdendent in their learning.

As always, if you do have any further questions regarding our topic, your child's learning, how you can help their learning or just a general query, then please do not hesitate to come and speak with me.

Many thanks & Kind regards,

Miss Knight
